A desert is a landscape or region that receives an extremely low amount of precipitation, less than enough to support growth of most plants. Deserts are defined as areas with an average annual precipitation of less than 250 millimetres (10 in) per year, or as areas where more water is lost by evapotranspiration than falls as precipitation. In the Köppen climate classification system, deserts are classed as BWh (hot desert) or BWk (temperate desert). In the Thornthwaite climate classification system, deserts would be classified as arid megathermal climates.

Last August 26, 2010 TOKYO (Japan), Canon Inc. announced that it is developing two new telephoto lenses for use with its EOS lineup of single-lens reflex cameras—the EF500mm f/4L IS II USM and EF600mm f/4L IS II USM—and will display prototypes at the photokina 2010 photography and imaging industry trade fair between September 21 and 26 in Cologne, Germany.

The EF500mm f/4L IS II USM and EF600mm f/4L IS II USM are being developed as L (Luxury)-series lenses equipped with a high-performance image stabilization system.

This two new lenses are the successors to the EF500mm f/4L IS USM (introduced in July 1999) and EF600mm f/4L IS USM (introduced in September 1999), respectively, models which earned strong praise from professionals in the field, Canon said.

I have ongoing project (gulf panoramas, a virtual tour of real state properties) and this project gives me an opportunity to get this kind of images.

Sunsets, artificial city lights at night and other light sources can all influence the look of your photo. If your camera supports it, try taking several shots of the night’s scene under different white balance settings to obtain special results.

Most night photos taken when the sky becomes completely dark will not produce the best results. Take “night” pictures around sunset while some natural light remains. Cityscapes are beautiful in pictures if taken at dusk when the sky is deep blue rather than black.

Canon's newly developed CMOS sensor, featuring approx. 120 megapixels

Compared with Canon’s highest-resolution commercial CMOS sensor of the same size, comprising approximately 16.1 million pixels, the newly developed sensor features a pixel count that, at approximately 120 million pixels, is nearly 7.5 times larger and offers a 2.4-fold improvement in resolution.

Canon’s newly developed CMOS sensor also incorporates a Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) video output capability. The sensor can output Full HD video from any approximately one-sixtieth-sized section of its total surface area.

What Is Ramadan?

Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان‎ Ramaḍān, Arabic pronunciation: [rɑmɑdˤɑːn]) (also Ramazan, Ramzan, Ramadhan, Ramdan, Ramadaan) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and sexual activities from dawn until sunset. Fasting is intended to teach Muslims about patience, humility and spirituality and is a time for Muslims to fast for the sake of God (Arabic: الله‎, trans: Allah) and to offer more prayer than usual. During Ramadan, Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance and help in refraining from everyday evils, and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds. As compared to the solar calendar, the dates of Ramadan vary, moving backwards about ten days each year depending on the moon. Ramadan was the month in which the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed to the Islamic Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

Iftar (Arabic: إفطار‎), refers to the evening meal when Muslims break their fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan. Iftar is one of the religious observances of Ramadan and is often done as a community, with people gathering to break their fast together. Iftar is done right after Maghrib (sunset) time. Traditionally, a date is the first thing to be consumed when the fast is broken.

In photography ISO or ASA (American Standards Association) is the sensitivity of the film (traditional photography) or image sensors (digital photography) to capture or to register images.

In Film Photography – ISO film was measured in numbers like 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and the last value I encountered was 1600.

In Digital Photography – ISO measures the sensitivity of the image sensor. The same principles apply as in film photography.

In both digital and film photography, the reduction of exposure corresponding to use of higher sensitivities generally leads to reduced image quality (via coarser film grain or higher image noise of other types). Basically, the higher the film speed or sensitivity, the worse the photo quality.

Grain is essentially how nice your photos look. Most of the time, you won’t be able to tell the difference in grain at standard print size of 4×6. However, if you ever have a photograph you’d like to enlarge, ISO suddenly becomes very important. The higher the ISO, the grainier your photo will look. On the above image I cropped just a part of an image, one at ISO200 and the other at ISO1600. The first photo looks sharp and more details, while the second looks well but  has grain or blur . Most consumers won’t need to be making a lot of enlargements, so this doesn’t always matter. But even an amateur will sometimes get that one perfect shot they just would love to hang on their wall. Unfortunately, if that perfect shot was taken with a high ISO film, or using a high ISO setting on a digital camera, the size of the enlargement will be limited before it starts to look bad.

Use of Lower ISO – lower ISO can be use in outdoor (day light) photography, or in studio with the helps of studio lighting equipment.

Use of Higher ISO – higher ISO can be use in indoor photography or places with less light like bars, concerts, indoor sports, etc…

But now a day’s digital camera manufacturers are trying to develop a camera sensors capable of capturing a low noise or grainy images while using higher ISO.

Photography is an art. It takes practice, talent, and an eye for the unexpected. Not all people will take the time to learn about landscape, wildlife, architecture, or other subject to find the secret depth within, but when they do often they will find great meaning in the photo they take. Photographers spend their time looking for new and different ways to shoot a subject. And these were the Digital Photography born. Digital photography is just one new way of taking a picture.

The darkroom is out the computer printer comes forward for most of us using digital photography. We are able to send our pictures to all our friends with a few clicks of the buttons. Digital photography makes taking a picture simple, by eliminating some of the guesswork. With the LCD screen on a digital camera you can now view the photo you just took without waiting and hour or longer to see the film develop. We are no longer limited by film capacity, but by memory cards. Most memory cards have 512MB, 1GB , 2 GB or 4GB depending on how much you’ve spent on equipment.

Digital photography include the professional cameras with the interchanging lenses, manual setting or it can be a simple point and shoot camera. Whether you are looking for a professional grade picture or something your friends will laugh over digital photography has made taking photos easier. As I said we can see the picture before we ever print, and also a lot of digital cameras will let you to crop and save the photos before printing.

Digital cameras can be all sizes from a key chain camera, mobile phones to the professional. We have all had a little fun with digital on our phones. If you are more interested in the professional side of photography the first digital camera you choose should have interchangeable lenses or they called it DSLR with a high resolution. It can be automatic if you feel more comfortable with light settings; however most have ISO settings, aperture, and shutter speed choices as well.

Like with older photographer setting up your shot is half the fun. Determining the settings you need to use for light is the other. Setting up your shot still requires you to have an eye for the unusual or for making the unusual out of a common scene. Walk around the subject and look for every possible angle, you may even decide to take several photos to choose the best angle. This is where digital photography surpasses film cameras every time. Once you have looked at all angles and taken photos you get to see if the effect you wanted is there. It is a faster way for you to learn how to set the shutter speed and aperture on a shot and use lighting because you see the results while you still looking at the scene.

Digital photography may not seem like it would still use all those skills you learned on your old camera, but this is definitely not true. Instead digital photography enhances your learning while you are still at the sight. Instead of long hours in a darkroom or waiting in line you can get the picture you want right then. It certainly gives more towards vacation photos when you can see if your thumb is over the lens or the camera strap was in the way or worse someone just walked in front of you. Digital photography like all things has evolved to help us experience a new way in photography.
